Qala Song: Netflix Unveils BTS Preview For Tripti Dimri-Led Film

Qala has just revealed a preview trailer, powered by a sweet piece of music. At an event in Mumbai on Monday, Netflix unveiled a new look at the upcoming film directed by Anvitaa Dutt, which focuses on classic musicians of the early 1930s and late 1940s. Qala marks the second collaboration between the director and Tripti Dimri, after the Netflix horror drama Bulbul. Dutt, who has been a lyricist for much of her career, is back with her second feature, which she is orchestrating from an original script.

A musical centerpiece – ghazal – dictates the dark tone of Qala’s new teaser. Dimri is the center of attention, singing “Phero Na Najariya” by Amit Trivedi and Kausar Munir, as random production clips pop up. The Netflix original film is billed as a heartbreaking story about a daughter yearning for her mother’s love. This theme resonates strongly with the song, which is a request not to stare/walk away and to focus all attention on the singer – here Dimri. There also seems to be an audience in front of her, including some sort of outsider, which makes sense since it’s set years before India’s independence.

Swastika Mukherjee plays the estranged mother, who gets worse over time, losing what little connection she had with her daughter. “Mother-daughter relationships are sacred and often complicated,” Dutt said in a prepared statement. “I’m thrilled to have such incredible actors on board and can’t wait for the world to experience the film starring Tripti, Babil and Swastika.” It should be mentioned that Babil is the son of the late actor Irrfan Khan (The Lunchbox) and will make his acting debut with Qala.

Qala also stars Amit Sial, Neer Raao, Avinash Raj Sharma and Ashish Singh. The new film sees Netflix expand its partnership with the Clean Slate Filmz banner. The production company is co-owned by actress Anushka Sharma and her brother Karnesh – the former also unveiled a new BTS look at their upcoming sports biopic Chakda’ Xpress earlier today.

Currently, there is no release window for Netflix’s Qala.
