PUBG: Comments from New State Editor Krafton on the Brick Problem; Game age verification fails

PUBG: New State publisher Krafton said it had “enough testing” ahead of the official launch, in response to complaints that the battle royale game was blocking devices. The South Korean company also noted that it has confirmed that the game is running smoothly. Krafton gave no explanation for the bricking issue reported by some users on social media shortly after the launch of PUBG: New State more early this week. In addition to the bricking issue, users also said that it is easy to bypass the age verification prompt in PUBG: New State and they can play the game even if they don’t have 18 years or older.

In an emailed statement to Gadgets 360, Krafton responded to the bricking issue that was raised on Twitter by some users shortly after the release of PUBG: New State.

“We have performed enough tests on mobile devices with specifications similar to Galaxy S7 or models with 2GB of RAM and confirmed that the game runs smoothly,” the company said.

However, Krafton hasn’t said anything about whether he’s tackling the brick issue or whether he’s aware of any such instances.

Many users complained that PUBG: New State blocked their devices after tricking them into logging in either as a guest or using a social media account. Some user reports have suggested that the issue largely affects devices running Android 12, although Gadgets 360 has been unable to independently verify the issue.

Hard launch for PUBG follow-up

PUBG: New State had a rocky launch on Thursday as its release was delayed for a few hours due to technical issues. Krafton also mentioned some issues with the game on their official website.

Apart from the problems users initially faced, PUBG: New State has a lenient age verification feature that can easily be circumvented, as noted by India Today. The game shows a prompt where users must confirm if they are 18 or older, but if you press Nope, he proceeds without asking for further details. This is different from Krafton’s Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) where players have to give their parent or guardian’s phone number to continue if they are under 18.

Krafton introduced the parental consent requirement with the launch of BGMI earlier this year to address concerns about allowing minors to play the game. It was added as one of the features to differentiate the game from its original version – PUBG Mobile – which was banned last year.

Gadgets 360 contacted Krafton regarding the PUBG: New State age verification flaw, and here is his comment on it.

KRAFTON, Inc. we are committed to responsible gaming and encourage parental discretion. The age barrier is still an issue and we are taking and will continue to take a series of measures to ensure that Indian users can fully enjoy the game in a healthier and safer environment.
