The Finals is a fast-paced arena shooter that has quickly become a Holiday 2023 favorite among gamers. Here’s how players can overcome their weapon recoil and start taking control of matches.
The Finals, like every other shooter, has weapons that experience recoil when fired. As players become more familiar with the weapons or enter training mode and learn the bounce pattern, they improve in their ability to aim and mow down enemies.
Unlike tactical shooter games with Counter-Strike and Valorant, standing still and shooting is not recommended in arena shooter. Instead, players must move around and target enemies who also move at high speeds.

This is a difficult skill for new players to learn, as most weapons in The Finals have decent recoil. However, one esports pro has figured out how to get rid of gun recoil almost entirely in the game.
How to get almost zero recoil on final
Laura “Viscose” Taylor, who competed professionally in Counter-Strike, took to social media to explain how players can get rid of recoil in the new arena shooter.
The technique Viscose uses to get rid of gun bounce is called recoil smoothing, a term borrowed from other arena shooters and battle royale games like Apex Legends. The idea is that the recoil of all weapons is reduced and, in some cases, almost eliminated when players stalk enemies with their crosshairs at a certain mouse speed while shooting.

To mitigate recoil and avoid gun recoil in the finale, players will need to do the following:
- follow enemies, vertically or horizontally, while shooting at them
- strafe in the opposite direction to that in which the enemy is moving
While players can get knockback smoothing while standing still if an enemy is moving fast enough, such as on a zipline, strafing in the opposite direction of the enemy’s movement (and strafing in general) allows for initiating the effect consistently.
Moving back and forth while shooting stationary enemies or distant opponents can also trigger recoil smoothing.

While there is some debate over whether a mouse and keyboard or a controller is currently better and balanced for gaming, it should work for both types of gamers.
