Prince of Persia: The Sands Of Time Remake Switches Studios, Game Still Delayed Indefinitely

The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake just can’t seem to catch a break.

Development of the game will now be led by Montreal Ubisoft – the original studio behind Prince of Persia – shifting away from Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai. 

In a brief note, Ubisoft said the decision was an “important step” for the team, and will build upon the work of the previous studios.

The statement also said the team will take “the time they need to regroup on the scope of the game”, in order to deliver the best experience for the remake and thanked fans for their continuous support and patience.

The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake was revealed in 2020, with an initial release date of January 2021 before being pushed back to March a few months later. 

In February 2021, Ubisoft eventually admitted that the game would be delayed indefinitely.

It’s pretty telling that the Prince of Persia Twitter has not tweeted a single piece of gameplay art or detail since 2020, when the official trailer was revealed

That itself was met with criticism from fans, who derided its graphics quality for a 2020 game. 

It’s worth noting that Ubisoft did not give any reasons as to why the game has moved studios. 

The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake was supposed to be a remaster of the game using Ubisoft’s Anvil game engine.

First released in 2003, Prince of Persia remains a fan favourite; the game sold more than 14 million copies worldwide.

The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, whenever it arrives, is expected to debut on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

It’s still unknown if Ubisoft will include the latest consoles like Xbox Series X/S or PlayStation 5. Or even the Nintendo Switch.
