Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 brings Nicki Minaj, Snoop Dogg and 21 Savage

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 brings popular rappers into the game, celebrating 50 years of hip-hop music. As part of the Season 5 update, scheduled for August 2, Activision has confirmed that Snoop Dogg and Nicki Minaj will be joining the game and its Battle Royale counterpart, Warzone 2.0, as playable operators. Other major additions include three new multiplayer maps and several “War Track” packs made up of hip-hop music to listen to in-game. that this is 21 Savage. No pricing details have been confirmed at this time, but as with previous collabs, they should be available for purchase as separate bundles.

Minaj’s appearance in Call of Duty was, in a way, hinted at in a promotional video from last year, ahead of Modern Warfare II’s worldwide release. According to the official blog, the artist’s look is inspired by his latest alter ego “Red Ruby Da Sleeze”, which coincidentally matched the Barbie the film’s release, which led to an internet obsession with the color pink and all things sassy. Even his Assault Rifle is a hot pink color, details of which will be revealed later. Meanwhile, this is Snoop Dogg’s third in-game appearance; he first appeared as a multiplayer announcer in Call of Duty: Ghosts and later appeared in Call of Duty: Vanguard and Mobile. Snoop Dogg’s shotgun in the upcoming collab is a silenced shotgun, tinted blue, adorned with gold etchings that of course resemble a marijuana leaf.

Call of Duty is no stranger to weird collaborations, having recently teamed up with Amazon Prime Video series The Boys to bring Homelander, Starlight and Black Noir into the game – each with their own brutal finishers like laser eyes. Other fun crossovers include Argentinian footballer Lionel Messi, outfits based on the Attack on Titan anime, and even the addition of Godzilla to the map as part of a limited time mode in 2022. With more partnerships of brands, we can only expect wackier operators to flood the streets, much like Fortnite has been doing for years now.

Season 5 also brings three new multiplayer maps: Livestock, an offshore Petrov oil rig, and a harbor full of fish markets and shipping areas. Get ready for new game modes too, starting with Havoc, which, although designed as a classic arena shooter, injects a random selection of modifiers aimed at making gameplay frenetic. Your operator’s jump heights could be affected to simulate if they were walking on the moon, landing at high altitude could cause a grenade-like explosion around you, and more. There are “big” capture-the-flag modes available to you, alongside the Gunfight variants, which pit you against each other in close 2v2 and 4v4 clashes. Expect a battle pass too, as Warzone 2.0 adds a dirt bike and an armored MRAP vehicle to its catalog.

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Season 5 event goes live on August 2 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
