The Callisto protocol just received an in-engine trailer, ahead of its December 2 launch. The new footage from developer Striking Distance Studios focuses on thematic and narrative aspects, as well as introducing a new character, played by Karen Fukuhara – best known for her role in the Prime Video series, The Boys. The title will be supported with patches for at least a year, with DLC investments planned for later. The Callisto Protocol is launching on all major platforms – PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series S/X and Xbox One.
From the creators of Dead Space, The Callisto Protocol trailer is inspired by a survival horror game, as you embark on a deadly journey through an intergalactic space sewer system. Set on the dead moon of Jupiter Callisto in the 2320 tear, players assume the role of Jacob Lee (Josh Duhamel), a victim of fate, thrown into the Black Iron Prison, a maximum-security penitentiary. Mysterious events cause the inmates to transform into monstrous zombie-like creatures, tasking Jacob with fighting their way through and in the process uncovering a plot.

Aptly titled “The Truth of Black Iron,” the Callisto Protocol trailer alludes to betrayal – supposedly causing sprawling alien parasites to break into the prison and ensure the bloodshed. “It’s like someone is trying to cover up what’s going on here,” Jacob tells Fukuhara’s unnamed character, as we are treated to notes from dead prisoners. It is implied that the aliens’ arrival caused the living colony to leave the moon, leaving behind inmates in the cramped holding cells – essentially turning into a wasteland. The trailer offers a brief look at its evolution/transformation process, where the parasite bites and possesses a host body, taking on a hostile form.
Besides firearms, players are equipped with an assortment of melee and telekinetic weapons, allowing you to grab enemies from a distance and throw them into razor sharp and heavy doors. Much like Dead Space, the Callisto Protocol relies heavily on dismemberment, allowing you to tear apart limbs, raising the ESRB rating to Mature 17+. The game will come with ray-tracing support, in addition to AMD’s FSR 2.0 (Fidelity Super Resolution), which uses a time-scaling solution to increase frame rates.
Callisto Protocol will launch on December 2 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, and PC. Pre-orders are now live on all platforms except the Epic Games Store.
