Hello trainers!

We just received another trailer for the Pokémon Scarlet and Purple DLC, the Hidden Treasure of Zone Zero! The second part of the DLC, titled The Indigo Disk, is set to release on December 14th, so this will be the last update before the DLC is playable! The trailer can be viewed on the official Pokémon Company YouTube channel here:

There’s a lot to unpack, so let’s get straight to it!

This article may contain spoilers for the main story of Scarlet and Violet, as well as the first DLC story of The Teal Mask.

Explore deeper into Zone Zero!

Towards the end of your journey through Scarlet and Violet’s story, you explore the depths of the crater in the center of the Paldea region known as Aera Zero. Throughout your journey through the crater, you will encounter strange Pokémon from the past/present, and at the bottom of the crater you will discover the Zero Lab, where Professor Sada/Turo has built a time machine. In the caverns located in the lower part of the crater, you will encounter gigantic crystal formations. These crystals power the Terastal phenomenon, the ability to change a Pokémon’s type mid-battle.

While Scarlet and Violet’s main story would have you believe we’ve explored Zone Zero to the fullest, the new Indigo Disk trailer says otherwise! These screenshots from the trailer showed us that there are more levels in the Crater that we will have access to through the DLC story events. They show the main character traveling through a tunnel of Tera crystals to a cavern below, where a massive tree made of Tera crystals is hidden. Could this be where we will meet the new Legendary Pokémon Terapagos? Only time will tell !

The synchronization machine

The trailer announced a new feature that will be available in the new DLC: The Synchro Machine.

Although little is known about this feature currently, we do know that it is a special machine that will allow you to sync with your Pokémon, allowing you to control them for a short period of time!

This feature will be available via an NPC named Synclaire. You will need to help him with his research before you can test this new feature.

Not much else is known about this feature, but it should be an exciting new way to play with your partner Pokémon.

Improved Koraidon/Miraidon Flight

Early trailers revealed that, for the first time, we would be able to fly with our Pokémon ride! Although it was exciting at the time, it was explained that a special extra would be given to the Pokémon ride to be able to participate in mini-games in the Blueberry Academy Terarium.

Many fans wondered if this flight ability would happen outside of the Terarium. It looks like we’ve only just received confirmation that this will be the case. The screenshot above from the trailer shows the main character flying over Paldea! On the left side you see the Asado Desert, and on the right, Lake Casseroya, two symbols of the Paldea region!

It’s unclear exactly how or when this ability will be unlocked, but it will make traversing the region even easier!

Return of the leaders of the Paldean gymnasium

It was previously announced that we would be able to interact with gym leaders in the Paldea area throughout your stay at Blueberry Academy. Details of these interactions were only revealed today.

It was revealed in the trailer that after interacting with the Gym Leaders for a certain amount of time, we will be able to trade Pokémon with them! The trailer shows the player trading with the Electric Gym Leader Iono, in which they receive a Magnemite. This Magnemite has a special ribbon that will demonstrate that it previously belonged to an Arena Leader!

These traded Gym Leader Pokémon will likely be fun new collectibles with the new update. If they can be chased with shiny, it will add an extra layer of intrigue!

The return of the legends

And now for what was probably the biggest reveal from the trailer: Legendary Pokémon from previous games will be returning in the Indigo Disk DLC!

legendary pokémon available by completing blueberry quests v0

If you played the Sword and Shield DLC, this probably wasn’t a huge surprise. Previous legendaries have been returning to the main games since Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and these titles have proven to be no different!

However, Legendaries won’t just be available to catch. Legendary Pokémon can only be encountered after receiving snacks from an NPC named Snackworth. To do this, you must complete Blueberry quests in order to receive Blueberry Points. It can be assumed that these Blueberry Points will be exchanged for Snacks. From there, you can return to Paldea, where you can encounter the legendary Pokémon.

We’ll know more once the DLC is released. However, we have the official list of returning legendary Pokémon. We’ll take a look!

As you can see, some powers are returning in this update! It’s worth noting that there will likely be some release exclusives. It’s unclear exactly how they’ll be split, but in the last two cases where old legendaries were available en masse, Game Freak opted to split them up the same way. Only time will tell how/if they will be distributed for this release!

As an aside, another non-legendary evolutionary lineage was also revealed in the trailer: Joltik and Galvantula. They will join the list of returning Pokémon in the DLC.

Conclusion

That pretty much sums up the new information revealed in the trailer. Let us know if we missed anything! Otherwise, we’re looking forward to the DLC update on December 14!
