The trailer for Rick and Morty season 7 is finally out, promising more multiverse adventures for our dynamic duo of the titular alcoholic scientist and his shy grandson. More importantly, it also serves as the debut of their new vocals, whose similar performers have not yet been disclosed. Both characters were previously voiced by series co-creator Justin Roiland, who was fired from Adult Swim earlier this year after being accused of domestic violence. The charges were then dropped in March due to “insufficient evidence.” The new season returns on October 15 at 11 p.m. PST, although Indian fans will have to wait until it becomes available on Netflix.

The trailer for Rick and Morty season 7 is quite cryptic, featuring random elements thrown together in an inconsistent format. However, this appears to pick up Rick Prime’s arc from the season 6 finale, where the villainous alternate version of the scientist killed his entire family. Our Rick Sanchez, aka Rick C-137, is now on the hunt, exploring multiple dimensions for revenge, assembling an entire crew that includes Morty, Birdperson, President Curtis and the openly needy Mr. Poopybutthole. It’s unclear where the story is going, but there are plenty of interesting scenes to look forward to, from Rick transforming into a leg to a holographic version of him attending a therapy session, robot ghosts and something to do with spaghetti, whose sauce strangely resembles blood.

“We want the show to speak for itself. We believe in the strength of the season and our new voices and we want to preserve the viewing experience for fans,” an Adult Swim insider told The Hollywood Reporter. Personally, I find the new voices to be quite similar to the original, with Morty sounding slightly higher pitched. Then again, if I had never known about the casting changes, I highly doubt I would notice them. There appears to be no change in the characters’ personalities and the hunt for “soundalikes” seems to have paid off in Adult Swim’s favor. More details about the two new performers will be revealed closer to the season 7 premiere of Rick and Morty. The 10-episode season will also be the first without Roiland’s creative input.

The two-time Emmy-winning animated series landed a nomination for this year’s awards show, which was postponed to January last month. On top of that, Adult Swim is working on a Rick and Morty anime spinoff series directed by Takashi Sano (Tower of God) and features a similar art style to some online shorts released in 2020. The anime includes also 10 episodes and follows the same premise as the main series, as it follows the wacky cosmic adventures of Rick and Morty. Currently there is no release window for this product.

Season 7 of Rick and Morty premieres October 15 on Adult Swim and Max wherever available. The release date in India has not been confirmed yet, but looking at past seasons, it is expected to release on Netflix the next day (every Monday).
