Netflix is reportedly considering pricing its new ad-supported tier from $7 (around Rs.550) to $9 (around Rs.700) per month, half the current subscription fee for its most popular package. Currently, Netflix’s plan costs $15.49 (about Rs. 1,230) per month to stream ad-free content. The goal behind the price drop is to attract more subscribers who watch certain ads well for a lower monthly fee. The streaming service reportedly sells around four minutes of ads per hour for the ad-supported service.
According to a recent report from Bloomberg, streaming giant Netlflix is considering lowering prices from its ad-supported tier. With the low prices, the ad-supported plan can cost between $7 and $9 per month.
As a reminder, it will still cost about half of what Netflix currently charges users for its most popular plan, which is priced at $15.49 per month without any ads.
The motive for the price drop is simply to attract new subscribers to the service who don’t mind watching a few ads by paying a lower amount to watch the content.
As mentioned earlier, Netflix is expected to sell around four minutes of ads per hour for the ad-supported service. The company is said to run ads before and during some programs, but not after.
