Manchester City Joins Power of Women for Unique NFT Collection

Footballing giant, Manchester City, has teamed up with Power of Women to launch an NFT collection in celebration of International Women’s Day. The collection will debut on March 8, coinciding with this year’s Women’s Day celebrations, and aims to celebrate the passion and diversity of women in football today.

The collection is made up of beautifully bold digital artworks featuring five unique pieces: I Am Powerful, I Am Proud, I Am Fearless, I Am Courage and I Am Resilient. The artwork is inspired by the incredible Manchester City x Puma Pankhurst kit range, which both the women’s and men’s teams will showcase at their respective matches this weekend.

All proceeds from the NFT sale will go towards City’s official charity, City in the Community, and will be designated for the City Girls program. The program exists to provide young women in the Manchester area with a safe space where they can engage in football, improve their physical and mental well-being, and develop their leadership skills.

The drop will take place at 12pm GMT / 7AM EST on March 8, and will arrive via the OpenSea marketplace. It will be Man City’s sixth drop so far as the club continues to explore Web3 and NFTs to better engage with fans and improve its surrounding community.

Sixth NFT Collection By Manchester City

In a press release, Nuria Tarré, Chief Marketing and Fan Experience Officer at City Football Group, notes, “Following the success of our fifth collection launched in August 2022, we are incredibly excited to further our journey within the NFT and blockchain space with this landmark sixth digital art collection, as we continue to grow our reputation as a collaborative and authentic brand in the digital art space.”

Therefore, “we’re pleased to have been able to collaborate with Power Of Women on these pieces, as part of our wider club activity celebrating International Women’s Day.”

Leah Ibrahim Sams, artist and founder of Power Of Women, is equally excited by this collaboration. In a statement, she says, “As a young girl, football was always the sport played by boys; the footballers everyone admired were men, and I never saw myself as ‘cool’ enough to support a team, let alone strong or confident enough to play.”

Before adding, “so when Man City approached me to create a collection for International Women’s Day 2023, I was honored by the opportunity to join forces with one of the most iconic football clubs in the world and celebrate what it means to be a female athlete and football fan today.”

All in all, this collection takes its inspiration from the diverse fanbase of Manchester City football club and the Suffragette movement born in Manchester. Both parties behind the collection aim to inspire and empower the next generation of women.
