Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon 782G SoC on Wednesday as a successor to the Snapdragon 778G+ SoC introduced last year. The chipset is designed for the high-end mid-range segment and is manufactured using TSMC’s 6nm process. It features a Kryo 670 Prime core with a clock speed of up to 2.7 GHz. Unlike the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC which was recently announced by Qualcomm, there is currently no word on which phones will feature the newly launched Snapdragon 782G chipset.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 782G SoC is manufactured using TSMC’s 6nm process and features a Kyro 670 Prime core with a clock speed of up to 2.7 GHz, three Kryo 670 Gold cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and four Kryo 670 Silver cores clocked at 1.9 GHz. It’s paired with an Adreno 642L GPU, which the company claims is up to 10% faster than its predecessor, the Snapdragon 778G+ chipset.
For image processing, this chipset includes the Qualcomm Spectra 570L, a 14-bit triple ISP capable of supporting photo capture at gigapixel speeds.
The chipset also includes an integrated Qualcomm Snapdragon X53 modem-RF system for 5G connectivity which is said to support download speeds of up to 3.7Gpbs as well as support for mmWave and sub-6GHz connectivity. 5G.
The Snapdragon 782G SoC can support Full HD+ displays with a refresh rate of 144 Hz. It has maximum external display support up to 4K resolution at 60 fps. The chipset features the Qualcomm Spectra 14-bit triple ISP which can work with single camera shots up to 200 megapixels. It is capable of recording video up to 4K at 120 fps.
The chipset features the 6th generation Qualcomm AI Engine paired with a Qualcomm Hexagon 770 Tensor Accelerator for enhanced AI performance. According to Qualcomm, features like AI-based activity tracking, audio enhancement, and background noise cancellation can benefit from these additions. The Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC is compatible with the Wi-Fi 6E standard, supports Bluetooth v5.2 and NFC connectivity, and also features the Qualcomm aptX suite for lossless audio.
The Snapdragon 782G SoC supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology for fast charging support, according to the company.
The California-based semiconductor maker has yet to announce when the new Snapdragon 782G SoC will hit smartphones. The company has also not announced which smartphone manufacturers will be the first to offer the new chipset, which should equip smartphones in the premium-midrange segment.
