Thousands of Apple device users reported experiencing issues using iMessage on Thursday afternoon.
More than 13,000 iMessage outages were reported just after 6 p.m. ET, according to outage tracking system Downtector.
Some users have reported receiving an “Not Delivered” message when using the app. Others said they had to choose to send a non-iMessage text with a green bubble instead.
Apple’s online system health tracker briefly indicated that iMessage was experiencing a problem around 7:00 p.m. ET.
USA TODAY was unable to reach Apple for comment, but the company marked the issue as resolved around 7:30 p.m., saying that today between 5:49 p.m. and 6:35 p.m., some users were unable to use this service.
Social networks react
Users quickly flocked to social media platforms to share their experiences of not being able to use the communications platform.
Many memes shared on X (formerly Twitter) joked about their immediate instinct to check social media to make sure they weren’t the only ones who couldn’t use iMessage.
