iOS 17 has been available for a few months now, but the update contains so many new features that some have gone unnoticed. There are also hidden settings and small tweaks and changes that you might not know about, so we thought we’d round up some of the lesser-known features of iOS 17.
- posts – If you hold down the “+” button in the Messages app, you can go directly to the photo picker to send an image. It’s faster than tapping “+” then tapping Photos to access your images.
- Links in the mail – To add a link to text in the Mail app, copy a link, select the text, then paste it to turn the text into a hyperlink.
- Add text to shapes – In the Photos app, if you added a shape to an image using markup, double-tap it to be able to insert text.
- Laundry symbols – You can use the Visual Look Up feature on iPhone to understand what a laundry symbol means. Simply take a photo and tap the Visual Look Up symbol in the Photos app to get information about the symbol.
- Apple Watch Ping – In Control Center, there is a new option to ping your Apple Watch from your iPhone in case you misplace your Apple Watch.
- Silent focus mode notifications – When setting up a Focus mode, you can now choose to always turn off notifications or only when the iPhone is locked.
- Diary app lock – If you want to secure your journal entries, you can enable the “Lock Journal” option in the Settings app to require Face ID to open the Journal app.
- Logging schedule – Having trouble remembering to use the Journal app? Enable the journaling schedule in the Journal section of the Settings app to receive a reminder to add a journal entry on a specific day and time.
- Adjust the speed of haptic touch – Under Accessibility > Touch > Haptic Touch, you can set the time it takes to activate content with a long press. Options include fast, default, and slow, and the fast setting makes haptic touch closer to the now-removed 3D Touch feature.
- Shake to cancel – If you’ve moved a Home screen app or widget and then change your mind about the position, you can use a shake to undo the gesture to put the apps and widgets back where they were found before making the adjustment.
