Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 2 Coming Soon With Performance Fixes, New Karlach Ending & More

The second patch of Baldur’s Gate 3 is right around the corner, with Larian Studios suggesting it’s a “chonky” patch. In a community update post on Steam, the developer revealed that the fix will focus on improving performance issues, especially in Act 3, where players reported slow cutscenes and stutters. when the camera is moving. In addition to fixing bugs that interrupted quest progression, our companion, the jolly Tiefling Karlach, will get a new optional ending – a closure described as “spirited” and “poignant”. The lengthy blog post also discusses some cut content recently discovered by data miners, some of which has now been revealed as a result of bugs.

One such case is the reactivity of the ruthless drow Minthara in the game, whose dialogue was apparently heavily reduced and felt inconsequential. Larian has now isolated the “very, very dumb” bug, which prevented approximately 1,500 lines of content from firing when needed, and will release a fix soon. “The game is super responsive and there were a few bugs that caused some companions to not react as they should. And it was like the content didn’t show up,” Larian CEO Swen Vincke told IGN, adding that his dialogue had triggered in previous versions — early access, I guess — and later development drowned him.

Baldur’s Gate 3 review

The amount of new information mined by data miners led some to believe she was meant to have an origin quest – similar to companions like Astarion or Shadowheart. Vincke assured in the interview that Minthara is just a supporting character, but once she’s fixed, they might consider doing “something more” with her. It also looks like the team is planning to expand Baldur’s Gate 3’s epilogue, which felt short and abrupt to most players. According to Larian, the epilogue was heavily cut lest the final cutscenes drag on too long. The game already features cutscenes that last over 174 hours. However, due to popular demand, the team will now expand it and we will be able to see its first results from patch #2, which introduces a new ending for Karlach that does not end in misery.

Larian Studios is also adding a new “Wardrobe of Rebel Friends” feature, which allows you to get rid of co-op party members who join your campaign. The developer dropped a funny advertisement for this, which details that you can place all unwanted party members in our skeletal NPC friend’s closet and they will disappear. As to whether Baldur’s Gate 3 will feature a physical wardrobe in our camp or if it will spawn when you talk to Withers, only time will tell. In addition to this, Larian is also preparing the possibility of customizing the appearance of our character in the middle of the campaign, although there is no release window for this yet. With each new patch and update, third-party mods struggle to keep up. Thus, support for customization will be added “at some point”.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is now available on PC. The PS5 version will be released on September 6, while the Xbox Series S/X version is expected to release this year.
