ED Freezes Rs. 5.5 Crore Account Balance in Mobile Gaming App Fraud

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) said on Monday that it had carried out a search operation and froze the Rs. 5.59 crore account balance of Aamir Khan and his accomplices in a fraud involving electronic nuggets. mobile game applications.

The DE has taken action under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The present case was filed on the basis of FIR dated February 15, 2021, filed under various sections of the IPC by Park Street Police Station, Kolkata Police, against Aamir Khan and others, on the basis of a complaint filed by Federal Bank authorities, in the Metropolitan Chief Magistrate’s Court, Calcutta, the ED said in a statement.

Aamir Khan, son of Nesar Ahmed Khan, launched a mobile gambling application, namely E-Nuggets, which was designed with the aim of defrauding the public. Moreover, after collecting a large amount of money from the public, all of a sudden, the takedown of the said app was stopped, under one pretext or another. Subsequently, all data, including profile information, was erased from said application servers, ED said.

It was revealed during the investigation that several accounts (over 300) were used to launder the money. Based on available information, the amount of Rs. 5.59 crore remaining in balance in the said bank accounts has been frozen, the law enforcement agency said.

Earlier during the search operation against the said Aamir Khan, Rs. 17.32 crore of cash was found and seized from the residential premises; 85.91870554 Bitcoins equivalent to $1674255.7 (almost Rs. 14 crore) found on balance in Binance Exchange have been frozen; cryptocurrencies [WRX (utility token of WazirX) and USDT (Tether)] equivalent to Rs. 47.64 lakhs has been frozen in “WazirX accounts”.

During the investigations carried out so far under the PMLA, an amount of Rs. 36.96 crores has been seized/frozen in total in this case. Further investigation is underway, the ED said.
