Frame AI Glasses, a new wearable gadget powered by artificial intelligence (AI), has been unveiled by Brilliant Labs. The device competes with similar wearable AI products such as Humane’s AI Pin and the Rabbit R1. The company’s AI glasses visually resemble standard prescription glasses, but are equipped with a micro-OLED display and multi-modal AI capabilities. The company claims that Frame AI glasses can make it look like “your glasses have given you AI superpowers.” The device is currently available for pre-order and Brilliant Labs expects shipments to begin by April.
The Brilliant Labs website introduces the product and highlights some of its hardware specifications and features. He also released a video that demonstrates the Frame AI glasses and some of its features. According to the company, the AI Glasses weigh less than 40g, which is comparable to average prescription glasses. Sunglasses generally weigh a little less and weigh between 10 and 20g.
As for the hardware, the AI glasses feature two layers of lenses, with the outer layer being an augmented reality (AR) lens and the inner layer being an optional space for attaching a corrective lens. In case no prescription lens is required, this location will simply have an optomechanical housing in which the micro-OLED is installed. The company says the display panel is “linked to fine geometric prism optics.” The whole setup uses magnets to connect the parts, much like the Apple Vision Pro. The branches contain the circuitry and the ends of the branches house the battery.
When it comes to features, Frame AI glasses have a wide range of features, according to the company. It has visual recognition capabilities and can offer descriptions of the object you see. It can also translate text in real-time, display nutritional details of food products, perform live web searches, and even generate images and place them in real-world conditions using the AR lens. The company revealed that the visual analytics feature and live translation are powered by OpenAI’s AI models, and Perplexity AI enables live web search.
The Frame AI glasses are available in Cool Grey, H2O and Smokey Black color options and can be pre-ordered for $349 (approximately Rs. 29,000). The company includes an accessory called Mister Power, which is essentially a power bank for longer battery life that attaches to the edge between the lenses, with the product. For now, Brilliant Labs offers AI services for free with a daily cap, but said it will announce a paid tier soon.
