Former Stardew Valley developer’s new life sim set in a city seems ambitious

Arthur ‘Mr. Podunkian’ Lee, former contributor to the megalithic Stardew Valley, is now working on his own life sim. It doesn’t have a name yet, but it’s set in a city, it has bikes, and it tentatively intends to release in 2024.

While there’s no name yet, it doesn’t seem quite fair to say that the game is in its early stages – at least judging by Lee’s X account, which streamed small, varied and enticing videos over the past year.

For example, you can take a world tour in this video designed to introduce the bike:

Even though the game takes place in a city, you will still be able to manage a farm, including raising adorable chickens:

You can also improve your reading skills to “acquire the ability to read in bed”, which definitely sounds like my life:

All of these tweets are from just last month and there are many, many more if you scroll through Podunkian’s timeline. Lee also confirmed that the game will support local split-screen co-op and online multiplayer.

Many games have attempted to follow in Stardew Valley’s profitable footsteps in recent years, but few interest me. This unnamed game exists simply because of the thing’s apparent scope – but also because of its creator. Mr. Podunkian is, I suppose, best known for working on Stardew Valley, but I remember his work with Jonatan “Cactus” Söderström on games like Mystery Of Dungeon and Wasted: A Post-Apocalyptic Pub Crawler and parody games developed solo like Merry. Gear Solid: Secret Santa. I’m always happy to come across an old name from the freeware scene from the late 2000s.
