Despite the initial excitement over Immutable’s “Gods Unchained” arriving on the Epic Games Store in June, the NFT card game has encountered a significant setback. The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has designated it with an “Adults Only” (AO) rating, leading to its subsequent removal from the platform.
Epic, home to over 1,548 games — including the tremendously celebrated Fortnite and Grand Theft Auto 5 — allows “Mature” rated games but draws the line at AO, which restricts the audience to those over 18.
Gods Unchained’s unexpected AO rating primarily stems from its Play-to-Earn (P2E) crypto features, rather than usual concerns like nudity and violence. Currently, the developers are actively appealing the ESRB’s decision, aiming to facilitate the game’s swift return to the Epic Games Store.
