As promised by host Geoff Keighley ahead of the event, The Game Awards 2023 featured numerous new game announcements (61, to be exact), with Kojima’s OD leading the media coverage of all games broadcast , according to an analysis by FanCensus.

While we expected Hideo Kojima to present a new trailer for Death Stranding 2, the revered game designer known mainly for the Metal Gear franchise surprised everyone by revealing his other project, which he is doing with Xbox Game Studios. As you may recall, the first rumors emerged in the first half of 2021, with insider Jeff Grubb revealing that the former Stadia exclusive would now be published by Microsoft and powered by its cloud gaming technology.

We first heard about Project Overdose (for which OD is clearly the abbreviation) in June 2022 with a report from Tom Henderson. However, that report mentioned actress Margaret Qualley, but she was not mentioned in the official main cast which will include Sophia Lillis (It, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, I Disagree With that, Asteroid City), Hunter Schaffer. (Euphoria, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Serpents) and Udo Kier (Flesh for Frankenstein, Hunters, Martha Is Dead). Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Margaret Qualley won’t be featured in a supporting capacity.

Regardless, Kojima’s OD would use Microsoft’s cloud gaming technology to create a “very unique, immersive and completely new style of gameplay – or rather a new form of media,” according to the game designer At TGA 2023, Kojima announced his collaboration with horror director Jordan Peele and teased more acclaimed storytellers (whom he calls “The Avengers”) to be revealed later. There’s no release date for Kojima’s OD yet, and it’s likely we’ll have to wait a few years.

The rest of the Top 10 most covered announcements include free roguelike DLC God of War: Ragnarok Valhalla, Arkane Lyon’s Marvel’s Blade, Archetype’s sci-fi RPG Exodus, CAPCOM’s Monster Hunter Wilds, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II by Ninja Theory, Jurassic Park by Saber Interactive. Survival, Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi from SEGA, and finally the Dave the Diver Dredge DLC.

It’s a shame that what was arguably the most impressive gameplay debut of TGA 2023, Hello Games’ Light No Fire, isn’t on this list. Still, there are plenty of interesting games to look forward to in the coming years.
