This base version of the game will include a free weekly rotating fighter and access to single-player, local, and ranked modes. You will be able to consult it on all platforms where Killer instinct is available: Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC.
Developer Iron Galaxy also revealed that players will be able to purchase the Killer instinct Anniversary edition for $30. This will include each of the 29 fighters, all of the game’s premium content, an XP booster, holiday accessories, and much more. The Anniversary Edition will replace the Definitive Edition on Xbox consoles and PC (i.e. via the Xbox app or Microsoft Store).
It’s worth noting that Iron Galaxy will be removing some adult content from the Anniversary Edition, namely an app featuring developer interviews and concept art, as well as access to the two original Killer Instinct games. However, those with a digital copy of the Definitive Edition will still be able to download said content after Iron Galaxy sends that version of the game into the sunset.
Meanwhile, owners of any version of Killer instinct on Steam will receive a free upgrade to the Anniversary Edition. As part of this change, Iron Galaxy will stop selling individual fighters, so if you want access to the entire roster, you’ll need to pick up the Anniversary Edition – or play Killer instinct via , since it is a game published by Microsoft. That said, you’ll still have access to anything you’ve previously purchased.
Iron Galaxy didn’t say when the Anniversary Edition would arrive or if the base game would become free. The studio says it is in final testing before the change.
