The Google Pixel 8 series, which includes the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, launched earlier this month on October 4. The tech giant’s smartphones are powered by a Tensor G3 chip and run Android 14 out of the box. The Pro variant recently secured the top spot in the DxOMark display test rankings. It was recently tested for durability and the Pixel 8 Pro appears to have performed better than most of its contemporaries, including the recently launched iPhone 15 Pro Max.
YouTuber Jack, known by his channel name JerryRigEverything, recently tested the Pixel 8 Pro for its durability. The smartphone has been tested for seven years of damage. According to its claims, the flagship model features the brightest screen Google has ever made, protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
The smartphone’s power and volume button, made from recycled aluminum, can be easily removed using a knife. The side panels of the Pixel 8 Pro were visibly damaged by knife scratches.
The YouTuber then put the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Pixel 8 Pro together to show how the two smartphones differ when it comes to rear magnetic charging capabilities. Google’s smartphone also has an infrared thermometer placed next to the LED flashlight. It can test the temperature of a body within 2 inches and does not work for humans.
During the fire test, the smartphone exhibited a permanent burn mark after 17 seconds of contact with the flame. However, despite the damage to the screen, the smartphone’s fingerprint scanner worked the same. In the bend test, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max completely failed, the Pixel 8 Pro performed well in the structural strength test, with no cracks or fractures.
As a reminder, the Pixel 8 Pro features a 6.7-inch Quad-HD resolution (1,344 x 2,992 pixels) and a 120Hz refresh rate. It packs a 5,050mAh battery with support for a 30W wired charging.
