North American esports organisation OpTic Gaming has teamed up with Smoothie King to run a series of sponsored watch parties during the Call of Duty League.
The watch parties began on February 23rd and are taking place on the YouTube channel of Seth ‘Scump’ Abner, a former Call of Duty player and current streamer for the organisation.
As part of the deal, Smoothie King has become the presenting sponsor and meal sponsor of the three Scump Watch Parties. The streams have been following the COD League Major 2 Qualifiers and featured guests such as, Hector ‘Hecz’ Rodriguez the CEO of OpTic, Anthony ‘Methodz’ Zinni currently a streamer for OpTic Gaming, and Marcus ‘MBoZe’ Blanks Jr. the owner of clothing brand Rich and Lonely.
The partnership also includes custom video content and social media posts, with Smoothie King also named the official sponsor of OpTic Gaming’s podcast, Around the Bar.
Founded in 1973, Smoothie King is an American company that runs a chain of retail stores that specialise in selling smoothies and as of the late 2010s focuses on using unmodified ingredients. This deal marks Smoothie King’s first endeavour into gaming with OpTic Gaming joining a list of notable partners such as the Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Pelicans Arena.
Created by Hector ‘Hecz’ Rodriguez, OpTic Gaming is a well-known name in esports and mainstream gaming, largely due to it being synonymous with COD content creation, especially in the 2000s and 2010s. The deal sees Smoothie King join fellow drinks company Mountain Dew as one of the organisation’s partners.
This is also not the first time that Scump and OpTic have been in the media spotlight this month. In February, Rodriguez and Scump filed a lawsuit against Activision Blizzard, alleging that the developer engaged in “monopolistic, trade-restraining and anti-competitive” actions.
The Chief Marketing Officer at Smoothie King, Marianne Radley, commented on the deal: “The partnership with OpTic delivers the ultimate better-for-you option for esports athletes – and of course, their loyal fans – looking for a delicious, protein-packed boost to help stay on top of their game.”
